The Interview

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

Seeing life as one group of moments in the here and now and loving every sexy second of it. My family, friends and career, together they are all so fascinating and mesmerizing to watch unfold and it never cease to amaze me. The book was certainly an unexpected accomplishment and it’s winning the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award In Excellence and Best in Category For Women’s Interests was another perfect cap this year.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?

I was fortunate to have been born into a family of very strong men and women who believed in higher education for both their females as well as their males. They continually encouraged us to seek increased higher education to enable each valued one to have access to many opportunities including increased financing for projects of personal interest and higher calling work. That was not always the case for young people, especially young women, to pursue their collegiate academic interests and have it funded. My grandparents, Tom and Ginny Grafton were two very futuristic and visionary individuals. They established early on the Grafton Grandchildren Scholarship and Educational Fund for all ten of their grandchildren to be able to attend the university of their choice.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Yes, vividly! I wrote Breast Cancer! You’re kidding…right? Living Life Through The Prism Of Uncertainty And Having A Good Time, in response to the emergency requests I received from those whom I voluntarily coached throughout their breast cancer treatment and recovery. So often, they had been crying for days and weeks at a time, many were terrified, and they all had the same question, “Where do I begin to unravel this, and where do I start?”
Hence, the birth of the book, which is loaded with thought provoking strategy to assist anyone with any stage of breast cancer emerge stunning, and get their life back in control while learning how to make decisions in an uncertain decision space and live their life through the prism of uncertainty. The fascination lies in the simplicity and pure scientific methodology used to provide a complete step by step guide inclusive of discussion documents, clinical consultation worksheets, criteria solution matrices and treatment scenario planning which is critical to a successful outcome.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?

Women’s Health, Women’s Interests, Scientific Methodology and Lean Six Sigma. Those are genre’s that I am passionate about and have a lot of expertise in.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I put together Breast Cancer! You’re kidding…right a lifesaving strategy book for individuals who were dealing with uncertainty and had to make life threatening and lifesaving decisions in uncertain decision spaces that required tools, criteria solution matrices, discussion documents and how to implement them. I integrated my personal story throughout the book and how I utilized scientific methodology to save my own life.

Who or what influenced your writing once you began?

First, great content that fulfills a need for the reader, and assists them in realizing their own ability to release their brilliance in decision making and provides a self directed pathway that works. Also, a message that is clear and offers a solution for the dilemma they are facing. Finally, and most important, your own truth of the experience distilled with an unrelenting sense of humor.

Before formally publishing Breast Cancer! You’re kidding…right? Living Life Through The Prism Of Uncertainty. I had the book as a resource or for my peeps who were undergoing cancer treatment. I would use my forms, and decision matrices and provide advice and counsel on every aspect of scientific methodology for navigating the medical maze with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Once the news of the book hit the wire, it literally started pulling the curtain back and getting the word out there that there was a clear cut strategy for anyone with any stage of breast cancer needing treatment planning that is on the merits, and works with life threatening and lifesaving clinical decision making in uncertain decision spaces to minimize the risk for disease recurrence. The book provides perspective and a practical method for selecting an appropriate treatment plan that is right for you. All of the laudatory comments and applause forced me to put it out there for anyone needing access to breast cancer treatment strategy that works.
For me there is only one test for truth; it’s like the acid test for gold, “Does it work?” If it works, it’s truth! This book is the absolute truth as I experienced cancer and how I came out on the other side, strong, healthy, absolutely stunning, understanding the prism of uncertainty and having one rocking hot good time!

Who or what influenced your writing over the years?

There are so many wonderful authors, but three stand out for me who influenced my writing the most. They are, Simon T. Bailey, Joel S. Goldsmith, and Robert Pennington, Ph.D , all three provided outcomes and solutions for their audience to enable them to realize their goals.

Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it?

When I heard the three dreaded words, “You have cancer!” I was shocked and stunned! I thought there was a huge mistake and that the people talking to me were confused or I was under the influence of something not of this world. I was exhausted, and stunned, like I had been hit with a dozen hard upper cuts to the body, it was weird, and I mean Salvador Dali weird. I was furious about the medical nightmare that was unfolding right in front of me. My next thoughts were, “How do I get out of this and where do I begin?” At that moment, cancer became my prism!
I made myself wake up and see life as it really is, to understand that this experience today is just one group of moments in the here and now of a very happy, successful, and fulfilling life. I allowed myself to love every sexy second of my life, each and every day. I vowed to keep my sense of humor intact, and have a good time! Cancer was how I came to face my fear of uncertainty which is true reality for all of us.
Honestly, you will be on the edge of your seat with every single word in this book. It captures the reader from beginning to end, and makes them want to live their life through the prism of uncertainty and have one rocking hot good time. This is an adrenaline thrill ride from start to finish, that you cannot put down.
One of the questions people want to know is how do I get a copy of the book? The book is available worldwide, including Amazon.com, both paperback and Kindle versions at http://www.amazon.com/Breast-Cancer-Kidding-Through-Uncertainty/dp/0615498590/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333143496&sr=1-1
Barnes and Noble, and through your favorite online or brick-and-mortar bookstore or through my website at http://www.thecancercat.com.

Love,
Cathy
